Our Redeemer Christian School COVID-19 Update: No School this Fall

Below you will find a letter from ORCS Director, Erin Selvig, regarding the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. No ORCS this fall doesn’t mean that ORCS is going away. On the contrary, plans are already underway to stay in contact with families during the interim and for eventually reopening. Currently, our goal is to reopen in early 2021, but this will depend on a number of outside factors concerning the ongoing pandemic.

This decision was not easy. The number one priority for ORCS and ORLC in making this decision is the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and the families we serve. Financial considerations and the longevity of the school were also taken into account.

This is a hard blow for many and we mourn the loss together. We trust in God to deliver us from evil and we are certain that ORCS is still an important part of the ministry of ORLC in the community.

Look for more communication from ORLC and ORCS in the future regarding refunds of registration fees, ongoing opportunities for connecting with classmates, and, Lord willing, reopening.

Peace be with you,

Pr. Nicholas Schultz

Letter from ORCS Director, Erin Selvig

Dearest Our Redeemer Christian School Families,

I hope this note finds you all doing well and enjoying the summer weather that finally showed up.  I wanted to first thank you all for your support these past few months as we navigate the evolving and changing COVID-19 situation.  We want nothing but the best for our families and children and have been working extremely hard to find a way to create a safe learning environment for everyone.

Unfortunately, and with great sadness, Our Redeemer Christian School will not be able to open this Fall.  The financial strain of opening with reduced capacity and the additional requirements set before us would cause great financial hardship for the school, not only this year but for years to come.  This was an extremely difficult decision for our focus group, school staff, church council and school board, but one we feel is not only in the best interest of our students, staff, and families, but for the long-term success of our school.

We will continue to monitor recommendations and reviewing the guidelines set forth by King county Health Department and state health officials for reopening preschools.  Our hope, at this time, is to be able to re-open sometime mid to late winter.  We continue to hold onto our faith that God has a great plan for our school and each one of us.

Your investment and trust in our school is treasured. We are so grateful and look forward to partnering with you again when feasible.  We will be returning all registration and materials fees paid towards the 2020/2021 school year over the next two weeks.  If your address has changed please let the school know ASAP so we can make sure the checks go to the correct home.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out via email.

Blessings,

Erin Selvig – ORCS Director
